Dr. Kim VerHoef, director of Psychiatric Associates, is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult Psychiatry. She specializes in treatment of adults and adolescents with various psychiatric issues. Dr. VerHoef has a special interest in psychiatric issues women face throughout the lifespan, especially how hormonal influences affect women’s mental status.
She has extensive experience working with depression and anxiety issues teenage girls experience while negotiating the changing environment of high school. She has worked with multiple obstetricians in the area preventing, identifying and treating depression and anxiety issues women face as they prepare for pregnancy, during pregnancy and especially in the critical post-partum period. Dr. VerHoef also has an interest in how the peri-menopausal and menopausal changes influence a woman’s psychiatric status.
Dr. VerHoef has a great deal of experience in sorting out the diagnosis of bipolar affective disorder and has been an invited speaker on the topic to regional primary care providers. Working closely with specially certified therapists at Psychiatric Associates, she provides medical care for women with eating disorders.
