More About Courtney Cook
Clinical Interests:
I work with children (ages 4 and older), adolescence and adults. I enjoy working with a variety of diagnoses and clinical presentations. I have worked with individuals with Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Social Anxiety, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder and many other diagnoses.
Clinical Approach:
My first (and the most important) step in therapy is to do my best to understand what the world is like for my client. I believe that empathy is essential to quality therapy and that all other steps in sessions stem from having empathy. I frequently use a Solution Focused approach to therapy. I like to discover what may be helpful to a client and then determine how we increase that. I have had multiple trainings in Mindfulness-Based Therapy and I often incorporate present moment awareness and deep breathing into sessions. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is another approach I use, wherein the client and I process how their thinking is effecting their emotions.
Hobbies:
In my free time I enjoy time with my family, trail hiking and reading.
